The Ashill village war memorial in St. Nicholas Church includes the names of two brothers from the village, Frederick and Osborne Cater, (wrongly listed as Cator), who were both killed in action on the Western Front in the Great War. Frederick's temporary battlefield cross is attached to the church wall to the right of the war memorial.
