Shown here after what is reputed to be the heaviest snow in the area for 18 years. East Road is shown on the 1895 Godfrey Edition map of Reigate as being called Gasworks Road, being the route to what was once Reigate gasworks. As recently as the late 1990s the site of the gasworks was used as a British Gas depot. The site has now been developed for housing, as can be seen in the background. The building on the righthand edge of the photo, labelled "The Crescens" was for many years a local grocers ("The Beehive Stores"), but the shop closed in the early 1990s and the ground floor was converted to living space.
