From Wardwell Lane. The water is Halstow Creek which has been widened at this point, possibly to form watercress beds. At one time, Newington had a flourishing watercress industry supplying the London market. It looks as if the farm (which lies on the eastern edge of Image) now operates as a crane-hire company.
