A circular plaque on the side reads 'PINFOLD - An enclosure in which stray animals were impounded until claimed on payment of a fine, has existed on this site since the 17th century. Restored and repaired 1986.' The old metal roadsign or guidepost could also do with restoring, (if of course it hasn't been already as this photo was taken in 2004).
