"John Veitch LLD Professor of Logic, University of Glasgow, was born in this house on 24th October 1829" Veitch was a great enthusiast for the Scottish hills, and was second President of the Scottish Mountaineering Club 1892-4. He is commemorated by a memorial cairn in the Manor Valley Image
