This school is listed as grade II* and was built in 1845. It has recently been restored. The building is closely associated with Samuel Wilderspin (1792-1866) known for his pioneering work on infant education and schools. His belief was that a child should be encouraged to learn through experience, and to develop in feelings as well as intellect and he taught at this school from 1846 to 1848.
