The road to the right leads to Vulcan Village and Earlestown. The main road to Burtonwood is relatively new, being built to by-pass a narrow and weight-limited swing bridge over the Sankey Canal to the south. The bridge spans the West Coast Main Line and the infilled Sankey Canal, whilst a span lower down spans the Sankey Brook.
