The buildings on the opposite hillside are Hawthorn Cottage on the left and East Heddon on the right. They are on the site of a deserted medieval village although little can now be seen despite a few earthworks and ridge and furrow ploughing. The farm buildings at East Heddon include some of the oldest in Heddon and have recently have been converted into a number of dwelling houses.
