The cemetery, opened in 1876 when the graveyard at St John's parish church was full, covers 26 acres. This central driveway divides the area, with the portion to the south being consecrated, the portion to the north an unconsecrated burial ground. The spire in the distance rises between two identical chapels respectively assigned.
