A favourite spot for sledging for many years. About 40 years ago the ground between the track and the grass was raised to the level of the embankment of the Penny Engine Line removing an abrupt end to a brisk sledge run. The houses in the distance are part of the Castle Hill housing estate built in the early 1950s by the National Coal Board.
