Standing on Bexon Lane between the church of St John Baptist http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1093 and Image the school dates from 1868 and was founded by the Thatcher charity, William Thatcher of London who died in 1718 left £100 to be invested in land for the teaching of eight poor children. The school has gone from strength to strength since it was threatened with closure in the 1980s and in 2005 saw the opening of a new classroom building.
