Woolworths has now closed due to being swamped by its debts, and failing to make the most of its wide network of shops in central locations in towns by selling mostly tat. Bradford and Bingley is now part of the Spanish Santander group after over-lending for buy-to-let or buy-to-wait-for-house-prices-to-go-up-oh-dear mortgages. Defaults on these made it no longer a viable business on its own.
