Named after the local Caldwell Castle (sometimes known as Caldwell Manor) of which not much other than a medieval octagonal tower now exists. The inn has a very different architectural style, and roof height, to the houses on both sides. However the house on the right appears to be in common ownership with the inn, or at least the ground floor, as it appears beer deliveries are taken through the doors under the arch. Maybe at one time this led to stables and/or was part of a separate pub.
