It's interesting to see the sharp contrast between the green south-facing slopes below the Tam, where the sun's warmth has thawed the hoar frost, and the white north-facing slopes in the foreground, where the sunlight has fallen too obliquely to thaw it. The Inverness to Aberdeen railway line runs along the bottom of the glen, just where the frozen and thawed land meet.
