It is dwarfed by a very large wind turbine which is located at Somerton Wind Park, about 500 metres further south (in adjacent grid square). This single turbine wind farm has an output of 1.8 megawatts. The wind turbine is one of a new generation of direct drive, variable speed wind turbines, brought to the UK by Ecotricity and was installed at West Somerton in July 2000. It provides 5% of Great Yarmouth's domestic electricity requirements.
