Despite a large area of this former London Brick clay pit area being reclaimed for housing and township development, a sizable proportion has been left in the raw or how it was left after the clay was extracted mostly for ecological reasons. A protected nature reserve has been established with ongoing studies of the flora and fauna that has colonised this area. Great Crested newts are one such species that may be found in this environment.
