The original settlement of Cooksbridge before a newer one grew up around the railway station to the south. The cottages to the left are Forge Cottage and Wheelwrights which date back to the 18th century. The white weatherboarded shed is the former wheelwright's workshop. The lane is Deadmantree Hill a minor road that leaves the A275 next to the Rainbow Inn and heads towards Town Littleworth providing the parish boundary between Hamsey and Balcombe for much of the way.
