The 'pre-Worboys' sign dates from the time when County Road was part of a through route in the town. The road number indicators, which would have been attached to the ends of the boards, as in this image http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1099250 have been removed. Had they still been there they would have read, top to bottom, A361, A345, A420 and A419 (additional information from a fellow contributor with thanks).
