Ruck of Stones

A very high and wide pile of stones, gathered from the adjoining large field, and covered now with moss and grass. Alison's father, as a young man, was set to till the wide expanse of this 50 acre field with a team of two horses and plough. He tells the story of how, when he asked the laconic farm grieve (foreman) if there was a "prop" to guide his first furrow, he was advised, with deadpan wit, "Aye, just had ga'en for Ardnamurchin Point" (on the far west coast of Scotland!).
