A late-9th- or 10th-century "high cross" shaft with a sundial added in the 18th or 19th century. There are fewer than 50 high crosses surviving in the UK. The Shall Cross is a Scheduled Ancient Monument - see http://magic.defra.gov.uk/rsm/23354.pdf for more information.
