As the inscription states this is where Mary Queen of Scots watched the battle of Carberry Hill on the 15th June 1567. After the escape of Bothwell she mounted her horse and surrendered herself to the Confederate Lords. She was then imprisoned at Loch Leven Castle. This is a splendid viewpoint, not just over the battle site but over all the outer Firth of Forth.
