This marvellous old wall dates, according to English Heritage, from the C13th. Two extant arches can be seen in this image. The wall partially surrounds Image It appears that the old hall itself is finally undergoing some renovation, and not before time - its roof can just be seen in this image as rather ghostly triangles peeping above the wall. For many years this was used as a farmhouse with the farmer specialising in pigs. I'm pretty sure that he was the farmer who used to collect the leftovers from the school dinners which were put in the "swill bins" at Image] and probably numerous other schools in the area. I wonder if such sensible recycling goes on today - it's probably against some law these days.
