Woolworths went into administration today, the banks having pulled the plug on a plan to sell the shops to the restructuring specialist Hilco for £1, in return for Hilco taking on £260m of Woolworths' £385m debt. F. W. Woolworths, a subsidiary of its US parent, was founded in the UK in 1909. It currently employs just under 30,000 staff. Leigh Road is pedestrianised for a short distance here. For the interior of this shop see Image et seq.
