I did not enter the field to read the inscription because it was guarded by two long horned cattle, seen in the distance. This was fortunate as the hotel's web site (http://www.botleighgrangehotel.co.uk/legacy-botleigh-grange/ ) states "A monument of mystery - with no inscription or name, stands in the grounds. It is believed to mark the position at which a former owner's daughter fell from her horse and was killed."
