Opened in 1870 on the site of an old army barracks to provide bathing facilities for the local working classes in the North Laine area. Baths were in the shape of a slipper hence the name and users were allowed to soak in one for up to 30 minutes. It closed in 1976 and has now been converted into a nursery. Beyond is the Prince Regent Swimming Complex opened in 1981 which was built on the site of the former North Road Pool that operated between 1895 and 1979.
