Norman Lockyer Observatory, Sidmouth

The Observatory was built in 1912 by Sir Joseph Lockyer as a replacement for his South Kensington observatory which had closed. It is a working optical observatory and an educational centre for various sciences, such as astronomy, meteorology, amateur radio and rural and coastal sciences. It is used to promote public awareness of and interest in science, and supports science education in schools, colleges and universities. It is operated by a charity, The Norman Lockyer Observatory Society.
