Between Rickmansworth and Uxbridge the River Colne and the Grand Union Canal parallel one another with any number of overspill weirs on the canal and, as here, balancing channels between the two, that allow water to flow between them to sustain a certain level of water in both. This view was taken from the canal towpath footbridge.
