The sign outside reads: Old People's Welfare, HQ Golden Hour. It was formerly Barton Road Junior School, which opened as a Lancastrian School in 1812 on land donated by the Hartland Quaker family, and was enlarged in 1825. Subsequently (in 1889) an infant school in a plain Tudor style was built across the road - now it is a Youth Annexe.
