The Yorkshire diarist, Robert Sharp, was born the son of a shepherd in the East Yorkshire village of Barmston, in 1773. From 1786 to 1804 he lived in Bridlington earning his living as a shoemaker. However in 1804 he became the schoolmaster at the village school in South Cave where he lived and worked until his death in 1843.
