The Peter Kirk School was an Essex County Council operated educational establishment for children with moderate learning difficulties that closed at the end of 1998. It is now boarded up and the site is being redeveloped. As far as I could make out through the fence the foundation stone of the building is dated 1862, and the 1881 Edition of the Ordnance Survey mapping describes it as a girls' school.
