Lower Precinct, Coventry

Coventry was one of the first cities to pedestrianise their central area as part of post WW2 redevelopments. The Lower Precinct was one of the later parts to be redeveloped and has more of a 1960s feel than the rest of the pedestrianised areas. This is how it looked in 1985, some years before refurbishment. Note the generous provision of public seating, frequently absent from indoor malls. Shops are on two levels which work better than a similar approach in the Upper Precinct.
