Bridge Street, looking up towards Church Street Bridge street was widened in the 1950s, demolishing all the buildings on the north (left) side. The road used to be less than a third the present width, about the width of the south (right) carriageway. The Whitby Gazette have had offices on the corner of Grape Lane since the 1850s.
