• General overview of beat such as percentage of area which is affluent / deprived - General Overview – The beat is generally thought of as one of the more affluent parts of the City. This is shown in the house prices and desirability of the location. The majority of the house is either owned or rented to students
• Significant industrial / employment bases e.g. Magna Park / East Midlands airport – The University of Leicester is a major part of the beat, the university has roughly 22000 students attending there with a large proportion living in and around the beat in rented accommodation. There are 3 other further education colleges on the beat along with 2 junior schools and a private senior school.
Morrison’s, Odeon cinema and De Montfort hall are all on the beat.
• Industrial development – There is a large scale building development taking place at the University with 5 tower blocks and other student housing being built for 6000
• Other relevant local factors – Victoria Park is a popular location, this is the location for the Caribbean Carnival, Pride Parade, outdoor concerts and also large scale events and fairs. The O2 is popular with traveling bands as is De Montfort Hall.

I have been a police officer since 2001, when I first started at Loughborough. I have performed a variety of roles throughout my service and am now working as one of the Beat Officers for Loughborough Central, with specific focus on the town centre itself.

Priorities

1 Jan 2024

ASB – Open spaces – You have said there is ASB taking place in open spaces across the beat. Officers will be in these areas carrying out pro-active patrols to reduce ASB related issues. They will be working with partner agencies and local schools to educate individuals and target habitual offenders.

We have carried out regular foot and vehicle patrols in the areas highlighted to us and continue to engage with the public to ensure we are up to date with what is happening.
With the weather starting to improve and the lighter evenings, we are increasing these patrols to monitor any emerging issues.

Road safety – You have told us there are e-scooters and off-road bikes being ridden across the beat. We are aware of the nuisance these can cause pedestrians and other road users. We will be carrying out patrols and local operations to try and tackle this issue and speaking to owners.

We continue to monitor and deal with road related issues, through proactive patrols in the key areas. A few examples of positive results:

We recovered a vehicle under section 165 due to traffic offences.

Officers conducted speed operation on Regent Road / Victoria Park Rd / Salisbury Rd / Upper New Walk in relation to road safety.

Officers recovered moped for no tax or registration whilst conducting speeding operation.
