Neighbourhood Officer Details
I am Abby Astle the Neighbourhood Inspector covering Wigan, Pemberton, Aspull, Standish, Shevington, Ince, Worsley Mesnes, Orrell and Winstanley.
I started my career almost 28 years ago, I was promoted to Sergeant after 13 years and during Covid began working towards my Inspectors exam. Every day is a school day, I don’t profess to know everything, but I will know somebody who can help whatever the issue.
I joined GMP in 2002 transferring from The Metropolitan Police and have worked in response policing, prisoner handling, intelligence and, since June 2022, Neighbourhood Policing. I’m excited about the changes to Neighbourhood Policing in GMP that will ensure we can focus on our communities more than ever.
We have a wide range of issues in the areas I work, from anti-social behaviour (ASB) around the town centre and bus station to violence against women and girls on our night-time economy as well as the car meets at Westwood Way. These are just a snap shot, there are lots of other issues that we are aware of and focusing on in Wigan. We are always looking at creative ways to deal with our priorities.
The public are our biggest and most useful partner and together with strategic partners we can all make a difference.
On these pages you can find priorities in our area that we continue to work on. We will update these priorities with the action we have taken to remedy them.
We can’t do this without you, so we have launched an alert system called Bee in the loop which will enable us to contact you directly about these priorities. It will also enable you to speak to officers on the ground, where you live, so you can tell us what matters most to you.
You can sign up at www.beeintheloop.co.uk
If this isn’t for you, you can also see our scheduled meetings. You will get to speak to an officer directly.
