SUPERMARKET DEVELOPMENTS (15 December 1992)
Motion Details
That this House calls for a moratorium on supermarket developments in green field, playing field and sensitive sites in order to have an in-depth inquiry into their value and justification compared with the loss of heritage by such developments; understands that three of the largest supermarket chains are planning to open an estimated 100 new stores in the next three years; and further calls for a review of the present planning regulations in order to give greater powers to local authority planning authorities when determining such applications giving more weight to draft unitary development plans.
