PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
MR DAVID MONTGOMERY AND THE FUTURE OF MIRROR GROUP NEWSPAPERS (17 February 1993)
Motion Details
That this House, recalling the clear undertakings given by Mr David Montgomery to Mirror staff when he became Chief Executive of Mirrow Group Newspapers that he would give the Group's editors freedom to edit and not interfere with the editorial and political direction of the papers, deplores the actions which forced the departure of Mr Alastair Campbell from his post as the Daily Mirror's political editor; and noting this and other changes instigated by Mr Montgomery which jeopardise the Daily Mirror's traditionally high standards of journalism, its independence from Conservative politics, the support of many of its readers and the plurality of opinion in the British press, expresses its lack of confidence in Mr Montgomery as the Mirrow Group's Chief Executive.
