PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
TRANSPORT AND VAT CHARGES (16 February 1993)
Motion Details
That this House calls upon Her Majesty's Government not to introduce any VAT charges on to passenger transport fares in the United Kingdom; sees such a policy as being extremely detrimental to both transport users and providers alike as such measures would lead to fare increases with subsequent consequential losses in passenger usage levels and reduced revenues which themselves will lead to a spiral of cost reductions gained inevitably via lost employment and investment opportunities in transport companies; and calls upon the Treasury and Department of Transport not to pursue such a strategy.
