PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
UNARMED BRITISH BOBBY (29 March 1993)
Motion Details
That this House notes that honourable Members have witnessed a demonstration of the various types of modern police batons now available; urges the Home Secretary to authorise and encourage the police to conduct trials with the expandable side-handled baton which offers men and women officers the best protection from assault and has unique qualities in restraining assailants whilst avoiding unnecessary injury; and considers that the carrying of this baton would not change the perceptions of the British bobby as an unarmed officer and would have the full support of the public.
