PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
SAFETY OF FOOTBALL SUPPORTERS AND PITCH INVASIONS (9 March 1993)
Motion Details
That this House, whilst deploring the pitch invasion at Maine Road, Manchester, on Sunday, 7th March, recognises that the Football (Offences) Act 1991 specifically makes it an offence for a person at a designated football match to go onto the playing area without lawful authority or lawful excuse, such guilty persons being liable to a fine of up to ú1,000 and an exclusion order banning them from the ground; and therefore calls upon the appropriate football authorities to resist calls for the reintroduction of perimeter fencing, as the Football (Offences) Act 1991 is the most effective and safer method for countering this irresponsible behaviour shown by a minority of so-called football supporters.
