PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND WATER DISCONNECTION (13 April 1993)
Motion Details
That this House congratulates these local authorities, Burnley, Canterbury, Cleethorpes, Coventry, Darlington, Great Yarmouth, Ipswich, Langbaurgh-on-Tees, Leicester, Lincoln, Luton, North Tyneside, North Wiltshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth, Oadby and Wigston, Oxford, Richmondshire, Southampton, South Derbyshire, Southend-on-Sea, Stafford, Tonbridge and Malling, Vale of Glamorgan, Warrington, Waveney, Wellingborough, Woodspring and others that have taken reports through their councils, expressing concern at the rising level of water disconnections in domestic properties, and the threat this poses to levels of public health; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to take steps to bring the law in England and Wales into line with that in Scotland, where at present it is illegal to cut off the water supply to domestic properties that are lived in.
