PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
CONDUCT OF THE HON. MEMBER FOR BURTON (20 June 1993)
Motion Details
That this House is extremely concerned to learn that the honourable Member for Burton, currently the Chairman of the Select Committee on Home Affairs, presently engaged in an inquiry into donations given to political bodies and the funding of political parties in the United Kingdom, has admitted to his recently being involved in accepting free all expenses paid trips to the illegally occupied areas of Cyprus; recalls that the Home Affairs Select Committee is the body established by the House to overview the workings of the Home Office and its legal functions and that the illegally occupied area called 'Northern Cyprus', at present unrecognised by every country in the world other than Turkey, is the place which has opened its doors to the fugitive Asil Nadir, whom it continues to protect from British justice; and calls upon the Leader of the House to ask the honourable Member to seriously reconsider his position as Chair of an inquiry into this matter.
