PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
PIRACY IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEAS (4 July 1993)
Motion Details
That this House is deeply concerned by the total failure of Her Majesty's Government to investigate the appalling cover-up by the Indonesian Government of the death of British Captain John Bashforth in the South China Sea in December 1992; believes that piracy has been allowed to run rampant in the seas of that region, placing British and Commonwealth merchant vessels at great risk; suggests that the countries of ASEAN, together with assistance from the United Kingdom, should secure these waters and provide intelligence data to vessels pinpointing areas known to face the danger of piracy; and urges the countries of this region to investigate and prosecute all instances of piracy to deter further killings and crime.
