PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Closure of Winwick and Newchurch Hospitals (10 January 1990)
Motion Details
That this House objects in the strongest possible terms to the proposed closure in Warrington of Winwick Psychiatric Hospital with 700 patients and Newchurch Hospital for the Mentally Handicapped with 220 patients; believes that these moves have more to do with the capitalisation of land values than protecting the interests of psychiatric and mentally handicapped patients; predicts that those unable to find care in a family environment or in the voluntary or private sectors will find themselves condemned to lives of poverty, homelessness and crime; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Health to intervene to prevent the closures of both these hospitals,
