PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Recent Decisions of the Sunderland District Health Authority (12 February 1990)
Motion Details
That this House deplores the recent decisions of the Sunderland District Health Authority to suspend hip and knee replacement operations until April and the ordering of bed linen, uniforms and patients' clothing; further deplores planned cuts leading to ward closures and the loss of 165 full-time equivalent nursing and ancillary jobs; notes that this follows a decision to cash limit for the first time the prescription of certain drugs within the Sunderland District Health Authority area; fears that these savage cuts will only be the first step in the dismantling of the National Health Service by the Government; fails to understand how Her Majesty's Government can claim that they are providing adequate funding for the National Health Service when such cuts are taking place within the Sunderland Health Authority and many other health authorities; and calls on the Government to reverse this appalling situation.
