PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Release of Nelson Mandela (12 February 1990)

Motion Details

That this House sends its warmest greetings to Nelson Mandela on the occasion of his release after 27 years of imprisonment; salutes his courage and integrity which has inspired all opponents of apartheid; recognises his release and other recent developments in South Africa are the result of internal and external pressures; welcomes his historic speech in Cape Town which sets out anew his vision of a united, non-racial and democratic South Africa and supports fully Mr Mandela's call for the struggle against apartheid to be intensified; endorses his appeal to maintain sanctions and other forms of pressures; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to abandon its totally misguided efforts to lift sanctions.
