Opportunities for Women (23 January 1990)
Motion Details
That this House is greatly concerned at the findings of the report, Commission On Women At The Top, published by the Hansard Society for Parliamentary Government; believes that immediate action has to be taken to rectify the report findings that Britain lags behind much of Europe in the number of women judges, women honourable Members, women senior managers and academics; calls for the removal of unnecessary age barriers, for good career-break schemes, and good childcare provision; believes there should be partnerships between Government, employers, parents and other providers; demands immediate moves by Parliament including a Royal Commission and by the political parties to overhaul their practices and procedures to get rid of the real disadvantages faced by women; and requests a Speaker's Conference to address the obstacles facing women in becoming honourable Members.
