St Matthew's Cemetery and Church, Highfield
St Matthew's Church is in Billinge Road. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building (Historic England List Entry Number: 1384453 https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1384453 ). The church was built, in Early-English style, between 1892 and 1894 for Colonel Henry Blundell-Hollinshead-Blundell, owner of the Pemberton Colliery, in memory of his late wife, Beatrice. the church tower is surmounted by an octagonal spire with lucarnes.
