New Housing Estate on site of Maypole Colliery
Land reclaimed after demolition of the Maypole Colliery is now a housing estate.
The maypole suffered a terrible tragedy in 1908 when 76 lives were lost.

Maypole Colliery, Abram - remnants of pithead winding gear
On August 18th 1908 an explosive fire underground killed 75 men and boys. Only 7 bodies were recovered. The colliery closed in 1959.
