Ordnance Survey records indicate that in 1963 there was a benchmark levelled at 38.512m above Newlyn Datum on the roadside wall, close to where the present wall ends.

On the 1907 map the factory was Albert Mills (woollen). Where the vehicles are parked was Bridge Mills (worsted). This photograph was taken in 2000 before the site was redeveloped.

Dewsbury - an industrial landscape
The mill on the site of ASDA that was photographed in 2000 by Humphrey Bolton is just left of the central chimney. The church with tower on the map is further left in the background. I believe I've got the position about right.

View from Watergate, Dewsbury
This is almost the same view as in Chris Allen's image of 1995. Image The long grey shed of ASDA is where the red-brick mill was to the right of the church; the next mill to the right has gone. In the foreground the little mill with the tall chimney has gone, but the smaller chimney and the buildings around it are still there. Of course the various trees have grown bigger. The point of view is railway bridge MDL1/12, and I am submitting a separate image of it.
