Queens Terrace
Sited on Queens Square and once an affluent area of Middlesbrough, now abandoned even by offices. There are plans however to revitalise the area containing many historic buildings. The property with the white porch was once housed the laboratory of Pattinson & Stead, a partnership formed in 1876 between John Stead and his former apprentice master, John Pattinson. The firm were analytical chemists and client based eventually expanded throughout the North East, UK and Europe. The firm is still in operation.

North of Middlesbrough station has largely been derelict for many years but gradually new buildings are being constructed. Each seems to be trying to vie for prominence making for a restless visual experience.

Another view of this lovely terrace is shown in Image (photographed by Mick Garratt). The Evening Gazette's "history" page http://rememberwhen.gazettelive.co.uk/2013/04/queens-square-middlesbroughthe.html says that "Queen's Square, situated in the parish of St Hilda's was at one time the centre of the financial and commercial district of Middlesbrough. Several imposing buildings graced both sides of the wide street, which was given the name 'square' although technically it is not. However, Queen's Square was a large open space in an otherwise densely built and populated urban area". Shows the locations of Image and Image
